Why are most new cars throwaway cars?

How come most new cars are just flimsy plastic throwaway cars. Most of them have gutless 4 cylinders, have transmissions that you can't feel shift, and can't even do a burnout even if you hold the brake and gas at the same time. Why can buy a brand new pickup truck for the same price as one of these junk plastic cars, and then I have a vehicle with a real engine, a firm shifting transmission, and rear wheel drive. Why do new cars(Sedans) have to be so boring, and built so cheap?
