How do you get glue off a car?

My friend bought a new car the other day, and they put the temporary tags in a plastic bag with adhesive on the back. She took them off to put her license plates on and the plastic was still stuck to the car where the adhesive strip was. Is there a way she can get that stuff off herself without damaging the paint?
